It’s been a long 15 months, being stuck inside, not being able to go out to dinner, weekends away or concerts. We as a nation love a good concert or a fun gig and it’s been a tough old time for musicians, not being able to make money or make connections in real life.
Even seasoned performer Gavin James has spoken out about how good it feels for things to be getting back to normal. Thankfully, this weekend saw us take our first steps towards a bit of normality with Ireland’s first pilot festival being held since the pandemic began.
Irish singer, Lyra performed on the night and she revealed how emotional she found the experience.
Chatting on RTÉ’s 2FM Breakfast she spoke about how nervous and anxious she felt before performing, and that at times she struggled to remember some of the words!
“One of my songs actually had the lyrics printed out twice in front of me. I was so nervous because in rehearsals I kept getting it wrong. I was like Holy mother, I can’t remember my songs, it’s been so long since I bloody sang them.”
“So I literally was like, ‘can you make the font bigger I can’t see it?’ she added.
Before the gig she also shared how excited she was, on Monday she said; “ I can’t switch off. I’m so bloody excited.” Afterwards she revealed that she was overcome with emotion after performing live for the first time in over fifteen months; “I was loving life so much. And then I started bawling crying when I came off stage. I was so emotional.”
Now some might wonder, how can a concert go ahead with Covid still happening. This event and their management took the necessary precautions including putting up barriers, giving each group their own segment or “pod”. This allowed everyone to have some breathing room, they could choose to sit or stand and it ensured as much social distancing as possible.
