Netflix’s new Irish star Ruth Kearney has spoken out her new-found fame, saying that she isn’t letting it go to her head.
The 27-year-old made her debut in the comedy show Flaked when it aired for the first time on Netflix last week, and it already looks set to follow in the footsteps of the network’s cult series, Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.
As Flaked takes off, however, Ruth will be keeping her feet firmly planted on the ground. “That kind of side of it doesn’t bother me,” she told the Irish Daily Mirror. “I’m not in this industry to become famous, I don’t go for jobs because they will make me well known; it’s so hopefully they will lead me on to more interesting roles.”
The Irish star has previously appeared in BBC sci-fi drama Primeval, but has really enjoyed playing the part of London in Flaked, the mysterious new girl who catches the eye of the two main men, Chip and Dennis. Chip is played by Arrested Development star, Will Arnett, who is also co-writer and producer of the series.
“He’s a hilarious guy in real life and great to work with,” Ruth gushed. “He’s so heavily involved in the show, it’s very much a personal project for him. He was so invested in the right way and we just had a laugh.”
With the series just beginning, Ruth says that she steers clear of social media and reading reviews of herself. “I’m not interested in reading reviews, I’m more interested in normal people watching it and their reaction, I don’t really do [social media] myself but I hear [the show is doing well] from some of the other guys on the show.”
