It’s a great day to be Irish, as the Golden Globe nominations have been announced with four of our own up for a title.
Irish actresses Caitríona Balfe and Ruth Negga are both up for Best Supporting Actress. Going head to head, Caitríona is nominated for her role in semi-autobiographical film ‘Belfast’ in which she takes centre stage. Ruth is nominated for her powerful role in the movie ‘Passing’, in which she plays a African-American woman who ‘passes’ as white.
While Irish actors Jamie Dornan and Ciarán Hinds up for Best Supporting Actor both for their roles in film Belfast.
Belfast, directed by Kenneth Branagh is leading the way with nominations. Swooping up an impressive 6 nominations. Across Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, and Song the film is tipped to win big on the night.
The black and white drama is set in Kenneth’s hometown of Belfast during The Troubles in the 1960s. Chronicling “the life of a working-class family and their young son’s childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital,” it is set to hit cinema’s next month, on January the 21st.
