Irish DJ and author Annie Mac has opened up after receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Literature from Queens University.
Annie was among six people who received Honorary Doctorates at the university over the weekend, which also saw broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan honoured at the prestigious event.
Taking to Instagram to unveil how the celebrations went down, Annie said: “Sweaty raves and silverware in Belfast this weekend.
“I received an Honorary Doctorate of Literature from Queens University @qubelfast on Friday. Mam and Dad came and we had a ball.
“It was a day to remember. And so nice to walk round the campus with my Ma, who also went to Queens, and remember our respective times there,” she added.
“We did two Before Midnights at Mandela Hall. Last time I played there was the last ever Shine event there in 2018 before it all changed.
“Was great to be back in the new incarnation 6 years later, playing all night long, from 8pm through to midnight. The sound was out of this world.”
Annie then went on to thank all those at the University who looked after her and her parents throughout the weekend.
“We felt so warmly welcomed. I love Belfast so much.
“Hope to come back to play again soon.”
Queen’s University President and Vice Chancellor Professor Ian Greer described the recipients as “exceptional individuals” whose careers have had a “profound impact” right across the world.
“Through their achievements, they have shown both strength of character and creativity, and demonstrated the values that matter most to our University.”
