Imelda May has revealed her heartache as she can’t visit her mam, who has fallen ill.
Madge, who turns 93 next month, sadly suffered a stroke and is now receiving medical care in hospital.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio One, she said, “Mam’s not good at all. I might burst into tears.
“It’s really tough because we can’t visit her, we can’t see her and it’s just absolutely torturous to be honest. So we’re trying to get her home as quick as we can.”
She added, ‘‘We’re trying to get her speech back after the stroke. I rang her, and the nurses are really kind and handed the phone to mam and I heard her saying my name and I nearly fell apart.”
Instead of having conversations, Imelda has been singing her to mam, with Somewhere Over The Rainbow being their top choice.
“I was singing down the phone to her. She couldn’t sing back which she normally does but I kept saying would you like another one, and she’d say, yeah.
“It was lovely, so we’re hopeful to get her home soon because my dad is missing her like mad. They’re madly in love.”

Due to various restrictions and lockdowns, Imelda hadn’t seen her mam for quite some time – but got to visit her family in December.
Sharing a snap with her mam on Christmas Day, Imelda said, “After early Dec flight, isolation and negative COVID test I got to see my beloved parents. It’s been almost a year and I feared I might not see Mam again.
“Dementia is a cruel disease so I was delighted she knew me and said ‘you’re here at last! I’ve been looking for you everywhere. That feels better’.
“It’s the best Christmas present I could’ve dreamed of. My heart is overflowing. Keep safe. Keep strong. Keep loving.”
