Imelda May has revealed that her dog Alfie once saved her daughter’s life. The beloved family pet sadly passed away in May, at the age of 13.
Imelda paid tribute to her pet as she shared that he saved her daughter as he kept whimpering until Imelda went to check on her. She then discovered that her little girl had pulled a plastic bag over her face and was unable to breathe;
“She had pulled a plastic bag on to her face and he would not stop — like Lassie — getting me, running back and forward, whimpering until I followed him and saw the plastic bag over her face.”
Paying tribute to him she said; “I owe him a hell of a lot.”
Her dog, Alfie was a much loved part of her family, even joining the star when she went on tour and loved by many of the stars he met along the way including Jools Holland.
When he passed Imelda shared her heartbreak on social media; “My heart is broken. My darling Alfie is gone from us.”
“Darrel and I had to make the hardest decision to let him go. He died in our arms and wrapped in Iove. I kissed him and felt his breath on my cheek deepen then fade away. Oh the pain.”
Mourning her canine companion, Imelda said, “
She continued, “My boy, my rock, my companion, my joy… over 13 years of love. I keep sitting in his bed needing to inhale his lovely scent before it’s gone too.
“We’re distraught. Myself. Darrel, Violet, Katie, Niall, Michaela, neighbours, friends, family and all who fell in love with him… there are many!
“The day is empty. Rest in Peace my dearest darling Alfie. My Gent. I will love you forever.”
Our thoughts are with them all. The death of an adored family pet is never easy.
