Imelda May has told fans to listen to her ex husband’s album if they want to hear his side of their marriage break-up.
The Liberties native, who split from longtime love Darrel Higham in 2015, insists her newly released album Life Love Flesh Blood is not a break-up album, but said those who feel the album is too one-sided should go and listen to his album.
“Darrel has written his own album so if you want to hear his side of things you can go and listen to the songs on his album.” she told The Irish Daily Mail’s You magazine.
“He knows I’m a songwriter and he knows that’s what I was going to do and that’s what he did. That’s good, that’s healthy and it’s the way it should be.”
Imelda recently opened up about her cousin Caroline’s tragic death, and how it made her reevaluate her life, and decide to part ways from Darrel.
“We were close when we were kids and she was the same age as me. That was my wake-up call. I thought [after Caroline died]: ‘Jesus, I need to grab life.’” she told the Irish Independent.
“‘Grab it by the balls and live it as opposed to make do’. I really needed to live after she died.
“You don’t know how long you have left. You presume you are going to live life to a ripe old age but who knows what is around the corner. So I had to live life – not half live it.”
