Today FM presenter Ian Dempsey has spoken out about the shocking exit of his colleague Anton Savage from the station.
Anton was axed from his hosting role following a spat with management, and Ian now feels that there an unrest at Today FM as anyone feels that they could be next.
Speaking to the Irish Sun the broadcaster said, “I got a phone call on Friday at 4pm followed by another one at 4.05pm. One was from the CEO; one was from Anton Savage.
“I really don’t know the full details of what happened but obviously there was some sort of a row.
“I thought they were renegotiating a contract but it seems not. I don’t know what the plans are for the future, you’ll just have to wait and see.
“I would put myself in the same kind of neck of the woods as Anton in terms of styles of broadcast, so obviously everyone has to watch their back.”
Ian will be covering Anton’s morning slot for the time being and he’s happy to do so. However, he knows that the schedule could change in an instant- as he’s learned over the last number of days.
“We used to go on until 10am in the morning and then when Ray D’Arcy arrived we went back to 9am. I’m kind of happy with the two hours now but sure everything is up for negotiation.
“I actually enjoy getting up in the morning believe it or not. I’m naturally quite a lazy person, but it does get me out of the bed at 5am and I still do jump out of the bed and I still enjoy it,” he said.
