Mairead Ronan has been praised by many for taking on Dancing with the Stars despite welcoming her baby just four months previous.
But the presenter says that she doesn’t feel like a superhero and wanted to prove that you can do it all.
“A few people have said that to me, buty’know, being a mother is something I love doing, I’m a magnet for babies, I’m that person in a supermarket who is over-familiar with someone’s newborn…but I also am still just Mairead. I still love makeup and hair and dresses and heels and I want to show my girl that you can do it all… once you have a supportive partner maybe [laughs]!” she laughed.
Mairead welcomed her third child Bonnie in August with husband Louis Ronan, she is also mum to Eliza, two, and 11-year-old Dara.
When VIP described her as a ‘superwoman’ for managing it all, the star said she just wanted to make the most of the opportunity.
“I don’t feel like superwoman anyway, more like exhausted woman! But I am enjoying it and reminding myself that this is a small window of time, and even if I make it to the final, it’s a short stint. So I want to work hard, stay as long as I can, enjoy it, then go back to the backing singer and mammy that I am.”
Mairead also opened up about the rigorous training involved in the show.
“It’s really difficult starting off, for me anyway, as it’s completely new. I’ve never done any dancing at all – it’s even been so long since I was in a nightclub! I think the last time I danced in heels was at a wedding over a year ago, so yeah, this has been quite the challenge!” she said.
She added: “It’s all very exciting but also terrifying, and I think that if I didn’t love the show as much as I do there’s no way I would have done it! I’m determined to put the work in, and I have been, so hopefully it pays off.”
