Anna Geary has opened up about her own fertility journey, as she calls on others to end the stigma around IVF and fertility.
The former Dancing With The Stars Ireland contestant recently married long term love Kevin Sexton in a romantic ceremony in her home county of Cork, and is now sharing her hopes to have children in the future.
“I’m acutely aware of the amount of people who struggle with fertility,” the Camogie All Star told Irish Sunday Mirror newspaper.
“It’s not like kids aren’t on the cards, I’m hopeful that they will be but I’m reluctant to say that we will because I don’t know if we can have them,” she revealed.
Anna, one of four coaches on hit RTE show Ireland’s Fittest Family, went on to reveal her admiration for co star Kathryn Thomas, who had spoken openly about suffering multiple miscarriages before welcoming her first child back in 2018.
“I personally think we don’t talk about the struggles of fertility as a nation,” Anna said.
“Kathyrn Thomas was incredible opening up on her miscarriages but we’re probably a bit ignorant about the reality of fertility.
“There are small things you can do – I got my AMH levels checked and did an ultrasound, it doesn’t mean you are or you aren’t going to have children as nothing can be conclusive.
“We’re afraid to talk about it, it’s wonderful that the mental health stigma is in a much better place than it was but people don’t talk about IVF or fertility challenges until they go through it.”
“For me it was really just making sure my ovaries were in a healthy state.”
Anna and Kevin tied the knot in a star studded ceremony last month, and partied into the night at the stunning Castlemartyr Hotel.
