Hozier and Fontaines D.C. are flying the Irish flag nice and proud as they pick up nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards.
Charli XCX certainly leads the pack with five nominations, however, Irish indie band Fontaines D.C. fronted by Grian Chatten, made the international group of the year shortlist.
While Hozier also secured a nod in the International Song of the Year category for his hit single Too Sweet.
Just last year, Hozier became the first artist since Sinéad O’Connor, and only the fourth Irish artist ever, to have a No.1 in the US on the Billboard 100 song charts.
His album Too Sweet has hit number one in the States just three weeks since it debuted at number five!
It has been 34 years since Sinéad’s number one in the States with Nothing Compares 2 U. In 1972 Gilbert O’Sullivan landed Ireland’s first ever number one across the pond and U2 nabbed one in 1987.
Meanwhile, Fontaine D.C. have also had a hugely successful year.
The band have already secured two nominations for Rock Album and Alternative Music Performance for next year’s Grammy Awards.
It is the second time the band have been nominated in the Best Rock Album category, with their second album A Hero’s Death nominated four years ago.
So safe to say, that the Irish are crushing it in the music scene both nationally and globally.
The BRIT Awards are set to take place on Saturday, 1 March at The O2 arena in London.
Comedian Jack Whitehall will return to host.
Fingers crossed for our boys!
