A cost-of-living crisis, a housing shortage and a serious lack of sunshine, it’s leaving young people in Ireland not too hopeful for a future here.
However, moving to the other side of the world is not for everyone and it can be tough being here when some of your closest friends and family have already left.
In saying that, we do have an amazing country with many great qualities and in many ways, we are lucky to have been from here. Here at VIP, we have come up with a few ways to help you fall back in love with living in Ireland.
Embrace what’s around you
Ireland is renowned for having some of the most gorgeous coastal areas you MUST start taking advantage of. A walk on the beach while the sun is setting or rising is one of the most stunning and peaceful experiences. You are sure to leave feeling better than when you came.
We also have some seriously unique spots around the country. The V in Tipperary, Coumshingaun Loop in Waterford, or the Wormhole in Inishmore are just a few examples of amazing day trips that will leave you in awe of our country’s hidden beauty.
Fun without Alcohol
There is no denying that the majority of socialising in Ireland is centred around drinking. While we are absolutely fans of a night out, when it becomes the only thing to look forward to, it is not the most fulfilling thing to do. It leaves people hungover, anxious and in poor form. Let’s not even get into the downsides of our physical health.
Finding ways to spend your spare time and social life without alcohol will make a huge difference in your lifestyle here. Run clubs, book clubs and Pilates classes are in nearly every part of the country nowadays. Meeting up with a friend for a coffee and a walk or similar ways to catch up will be super wholesome.
You might prefer to spend your time on your own which is also completely fine. Prioritising your personal goals and interests will also make each day much better.
Wake up early
Waking up early is essential to making the most of each day, especially during the winter months. Lack of daylight affects us much more than you might think. Getting the most out of the daylight hours will lift your mood and motivate you. Having a good morning routine can set you up for the day ahead and allow you not to feel as though you are rushing which in turn will reduce stress.
The grass isn’t always greener
It’s super important to remember that even though other people may ADORE living in other countries, that doesn’t mean that that country doesn’t have its pros and cons. You are also likely only hearing and seeing the highlights from people living abroad, so take your impressions of other places with a pinch of salt!
