RTE’s Today Show, fronted by Maura Derrane, Daithi O’Se and Sinead Kennedy, won’t be airing this afternoon during their usual 3.30pm slot.

The show has been pulled today and will be replaced by an RTE News special surrounding the inauguration of Joe Biden as he’s being sworn into presidency.

He will officially be named as President of the United States at 5pm Irish time, during a ceremony on the steps of the US Capitol building.

While it will be a much smaller event than previous years due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, it will still be marked with an estimated 1000 people in attendance.

Barack and Michelle Obama as well as Bill and Hillary Clinton are among those who will be in attendance. Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez are set to perform at the inauguration ceremony too – which we can’t wait to see.

Catch all the coverage on RTE throughout the afternoon.
