Today FM presenter Louise Duffy wed former Kerry GAA star Paul Galvin this afternoon, and despite a veil of secrecy being thrown over the event by the couple, we can now bring you pictures of their big day.
Talking before the wedding, Louise had played down any suggestions that she might take a risk on the day with her choice of dress. ” ‘He’ll be very dapper, but I think he’ll probably go quite traditional,’ Louise said of Paul. ‘I was the same. I thought maybe I’ll just get a plain white dress from anywhere and jazz it up, but at the same time I don’t want to be looking at these pictures in 20 years’ time and thinking, ‘Oh wasn’t I a fool trying to be all snazzy’!
Despite the warnings that they would go for conservative outfits, both stars pull out all the stops on the day. As they left the church under a hurley-clad guard of honour, Louise looked stunning in a beautiful, and slightly revealing silk and lace dress while Paul, although wearing a relatively conservative grey, three-piece suit, offset this with a spotted purple tie and a pair of his trademark, patent black brogues.
Guests on the day attended St. Tiernan’s church in Crossmalina, where Louise held both her confirmation and communion, and will join the newly-weds for a lavish reception in nearby Belleek Castle in Ballina.
The couple have been together four years, with Paul having surprised Louise with a proposal during a romantic break to New York nearly two years ago. And while camera-shy Galvin has said little publicly about their big day, Louise has more forthcoming about their relationship. Talking to VIP during the summer, she revealed that “I knew pretty early on that it was something pretty lasting, and we were going to be in it for the long haul. I think you just have to be best friends with somebody who has your back … It really does boil down to being best friends, and just enjoying each other’s company so much.”
