Following the tragic passing of Fair City’s Karl Shiels earlier this summer, the final scenes surrounding his character Robbie Quinn are airing this week.
Earlier this week Aisling O’Neill, who plays Karl’s on-screen wife Carol, received widespread praise for her performance as her character learned of her husband’s death.
Last night saw another emotional episode, as Carol heard about his final moments.
Robbie’s pal Craig told Carol: “He knew there was no hope. Last words, it wasn’t tell her I love her, it was, and I’ll give it to you exactly. ‘Tell Carol I adore her, always have.’
“He said to tell you to give Jack a hug from him and then he cracked a joke, and that was it.”
When Carol asked Craig to tell her Robbie’s final joke, he divulged that the beloved character’s dying words were, “F this for a game of soldiers.”
Heartbroken viewers then took to Twitter to air their feelings on the emotional episode.
Seeing Carol on #faircity grieve over Robbie has me in bits! Aisling is an amazing actress and done a brilliant job portraying the sadness which is probably quite real with the loss of Robbie aka Karl. Loved how she donated his money to survivors of abuse in industrial schools 💞
