We sat down with Irish UFC star Shauna Bannon for a fabulous health kick!
Self-care means to me… It’s so important. With MMA, because it’s such a high-intensity sport where your body is constantly broken up, self care is something I’ve really introduced to my routine, especially over the past two years. I’ve always done a bit of self care naturally with yoga and massages, but I’ve worked really closely with my sports psychologist over the last two years on how to find something to build into fight day – I can’t do a sauna then, so little things like colouring are great. I have my cup of tea at night and colour, and it’s my new routine. With MMA there’s a lot of pressure on your mind and body so self care is very important to try get a balance.
The best advice I ever got was…Nobody cares! It’s a topic for a day and then it’s gone, it’s in the past. You can dwell and over-think, but nobody else really cares.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned lately is…Training partners are so important.
The mantra I live by is…Everything happens for a reason!

The supplements I swear by are…I love my supplements. One that I really, really can’t live without is magnesium, that has to be my number one. I love electrolytes too.
The life hack that saves me…Coffee! [laughs] I don’t think I’d be able to go one day without it, it’s my saviour.
My wellbeing essentials are…Hot yoga, sauna and ice baths and jiu-jitsu as well. It’s like therapy.
My great escape is….A Thai massage! It’s like my little reset.
My plan going forward is…To win my next fight, perform my best to date, and hopefully get another €50k bonus!
