HBO replaces Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts with new series

HBO has reportedly axed a Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts – and replaced it with a new series titled House of the Dragon.

The now-dead prequel, referred to as Bloodmoon, filmed its pilot episode in Northern Ireland, but it won’t go to air, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The prequel was set to examine what life was like in Westeros around 5000 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

According to HBO, Bloodmoon would “chronicle the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

However, despite the show’s axing, GOT fans can rejoice because HBO has just given the go-ahead to a second prequel series titled House of the Dragon.

As evidenced by its title, House of the Dragon is set to track the history of House Targaryen (made famous by Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys) and will follow the Targaryen family as they battle through a civil war.

Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019, becoming one of the most successful shows of all time and making stars out of its principal cast.

Although House of the Dragon’s debut date is unclear, we know that the series will be broadcast on HBO’s new streaming service HBO Max, set to launch in May 2020.

We couldn’t be more excited for this spin-off!
