Grainne Seoige has revealed what lockdown is like in South Africa.
Explaining the strict restrictions, the newlywed said you’re only allowed to leave the house for exercise during a three-hour window, and the sale of alcohol and tobacco is strictly prohibited.
Speaking on the Six O’Clock Show, Grainne told Muireann and Ray, “Today and for the last few days, I was able to bring my dog for a walk between 6 and 9am.
“For over 35 days before that you were not allowed to leave your house at all in South Africa unless you were getting medical attention or going for food.
“It’s very, very difficult. I know people are struggling with the 2km thing in Ireland but we haven’t even had that for the last month.”
“Also no alcohol and no tobacco is being sold in South Africa during the lockdown,” she said.
“It’s not easy, but there are bigger things at play here and the government have decided having alcohol freely available might encourage people to make decisions that might endanger them or others.
“This lockdown is being enforced by the police and the military here, it is very stringent.”
Grainne continued, “They’re taking no chances and in fairness there are only seven and a half thousand cases here at the moment, 150 deaths but they are preparing for the worst. I have to say I applaud them for it.”
Grainne wed her long-term love Leon Jordaan during a gorgeous ceremony in the Cliff at Lyons last December before returning to their South African home.
Keeping the guest list to under 100 people, the pair enjoyed an incredibly intimate day with their nearest and dearest.
Some of the guests in attendance included her sister Sile and pals Muireann O’Connell, Liam Cunningham and Maura Derrane.
