Probably one of the most asked questions when it comes to Westlife…. when are they coming to Sligo for a gig? You’d think with three out of four band members hailing from the county they would have made their return sooner, but nevertheless take note because according to one of their members, his hometown is definitely due a show.

The band just recently announced that they will be taking their tour to North America – across the US and Canada – and Mark will be coming along too!

But sadly when it comes to some new Irish shows Shane shared on Wednesday that they’ve finished with Ireland for a while.

Shane and Gillian Filan joined Andrea Gilligan on Newstalk on Wednesday to discuss their involvement in the Irish Cancer Society’s Celebrate and Remember event that will take place in September in the Aviva.

Chatting away to Andrea, Shane noted that while he and the guys would love to play a show or two in Sligo, it’s unlikely that a date will be coming any time soon.

He said: “Playing Sligo is definitely something we’ll do again, not anytime soon probably as we’ve lots of international touring for the next 12 months, but perhaps the next big tour, whenever that is.”

Continuing on he said: “We won’t be playing Ireland again for a while either as we just did big gigs last year but the next time we tour Ireland, we’d love to play Sligo.”

Adding: “It’s our hometown, we’re very proud of it. The Lissadel gig was special, it was absolutely so spectacular for us. We’re very proud boys from Sligo and to play there would be amazing.”

His wife then proceeded to remind him that the aforementioned Lissadel gig was 12 years ago and that a gig was well overdue.

Agreeing he said: “It’s definitely due.. but we want to do it right with a proper full tour. It has to be planned and done right as it’ll be just as important to us as any gig we do anywhere in the world.”
