Fred Cooke has been forced to shut down engagement rumours after his family received calls about it.
The comedian had fans confused after posting an innocent snap of himself and girlfriend Julie Jay.
But it was the caption that had fans thinking they were walking down the aisle.
“No longer a single Dingle! X” he wrote.
This prompted dozens of fans to congratulate the happy couple, and it was even reported by some news sites that Fred did propose.
He took to Instagram to clear up the confusion a day later saying: “I love Julie very much, but WE ARE NOT ENGAGED,”
He added: “Thanks so much for such positive feedback. I meant not single as in being in a relationship. I’ll choose my caption better next time. Sorry for the confusion.”
Julie also posted a pic of the news story and wrote: “WE ARE NOT ENGAGED BUT THANK YOU NEXT.”
The comedian, who recently competed on Dancing with the Stars, revealed his family were getting messages from people to congratulate them.
“My mum started getting calls from people congratulating her, so she rang me going ‘Fred are you engaged?’ Then my sister rang, delighted with the idea, and offering me money to help with the reception,” he told the Sun.
“Everyone was so genuinely happy…the only problem was myself and Julie aren’t getting married, we are not getting engaged,” the comedian added, who explained they are together less than a year!
