Music legend Finbar Furey has shared the heartbreaking story of missing his final chance to see and talk to his good friend, the late Brendan Grace.
The singer was close to the Dublin comedian, who sadly passed away last month following a short battle with cancer.
“I couldn’t believe it. I’d missed seeing him, which broke my heart a bit,” Finbar told The Irish Mirror.
“We were ready to go and then I just got the news that Brendan had died. I got a phone call from (Brendan’s son-in-law) Frankie Gillespie to tell me. And I said, ‘Ah dear’
“But he said he had a very peaceful passing. To the end, he said, he was joking and laughing.”
The much loved comedian sadly passed away in July, with hundreds of mourners lining the streets of The Liberties for one last send off.
The hilarious star had fans around the world, and was held in high regard by many.
Following his death, Brendan’s daughter Melanie shared an emotional tribute to her father.
“It was extraordinary being his daughter,” Melanie told Joe Duffy on LiveLine.
“He had the kindest, kindest heart. He had heart enough both for his family and a nation and we’re just so proud of that. We were happy to share him.
“Offstage, although he absolutely made us laugh often, he was a different person and I loved that we got that person. Everyone else got the entertainer, we got a more vulnerable version of that.
“It was the comfort my mam gave him that made his passing so gentle. He promised that he would never leave us and we believe that to be true.”
