Fair City star Aisling O’Neill has revealed that she’s received letters of praise from fans about her recent abuse storyline on the RTE soap.

The actress, who plays Carol Foley on the popular programme, was recently the centre of an extremely harrowing storyline which centred on child abuse.

Viewers were quick to praise Aisling on social media for her astounding acting skills during the emotional scenes, but it’s now been revealed that she also received letters from victims thanking her for doing them justice.

Speaking to the Herald she said, “I wasn’t nervous but I knew I had to play it very sensitively because I was aware that a lot of people have suffered from that. I did get letters from people, I was delighted about that. People said I did it justice so I was pleased.

“She’s had a very hard life so I have to pull a lot out of myself sometimes because she has been sexually abused and all of those kind of things. It’s great to play that because it gives you a chance to really act.”

Aisling’s performance landed her a nomination for Best Female Performance in a soap or comedy at the IFTA’s last week, but was pipped to the post by Sharon Horgan.
