Rachel Allen has revealed that pushing her children to complete school isn’t something she is interested in doing, and says she is happy once she see’s them working hard and growing on other platforms.
The celebrity chef won’t be pushing her children, Joshua (16), Lucca (13) and Scarlett (6), into any situations they aren’t comfortable in, and takes pride in her decision.
Speaking exclusively to VIP, Rachel revealed, “Joshua is very artistic, and has taken transition year out of school, and I don’t know whether he’ll even go back to do his Leaving Certificate.
“People may disagree with me, but as his mother, I’m not sure formal education is for him.”
She continued, “Josh is dyslexic and very creative. We’re constantly there for him and keeping an eye on him. We want him to be happy and busy. And right now, he is.
“He’s done a tractor-and-loader course, and an outboard motor course. Once he’s putting in a day’s work and he’s happy and learning, we’re happy enough.”
Rachel also revealed to us that she’s no stranger to that feeling, having wanted to drop out of school herself.
“I loved the fun with my friends, but that was it. I remember in fifth year wanting to leave and ringing Ballymaloe to see if I could enroll on a cookery course, but I was too young. I finished school, but only just,” she said.
Nowadays the star is cooking up a storm on her new show, Rachel’s Coastal Cooking, each Wednesday night on RTÉ One. Be sure to catch our full interview with her in this month’s issue of VIP – out in shops NOW!
