This weekend we were treated to another night of glitz and glamour with RTE’s Dancing with the Stars. If you missed Sunday’s show then don’t worry we have everything you need to know right here…
10 celebrities took to the dance floor to battle it out for their place in next week’s show, and of course they were introduced by presenters, Jennifer Zamparelli and Nicky Byrne.
First out on the floor was singer Erica Cody who was joined by pro-dancer Denys Samson. They opened the show with a sultry rumba to ‘Girl on Fire’ by Alicia Keys which scored them an impressive 12 from the judges.
Loraine began the comments from the judges with; “A raw rumba, no frills, but…you dressed it up with the arms, legs, basic action, fan position – outstanding rumba.”
Arthur was also full of praise for the pair; “Can someone pass me the fire extinguisher? That was hot! That’s how you open the show!” as was Brian; “Coordination, control, quality. SMOKIN’!”
Next up was professional cyclist, Nicolas Roche and professional dancer, Karen Byrne. The pair danced a samba, which is their second latin routine of the season so far, to ‘Fantasy’ by Earth, Wind and Fire which scored them a 15 from the judges.
Commenting on the performance Brian said; “Last week you glided, but, bit of a puncture tonight. Some of the technical actions were a bit flat, so technical improvement needed, but keep party going.”
Loraine also had some criticism for the couple as she said; “Technically way off the mark, but emotionally, definitely on the mark. I applaud that, but technically not up there.”
Third out on the dance floor was Aslan’s Billy McGuinnes who was joined by his professional dancer partner, Hannah Kelly. They danced a quickstep to The Jam’s ‘A Town Called Malice’ which earned them an 18 from the judges.
Loraine was delighted with their performance; “May I say for a man of 61…it’s incredible. The two times you went down the floor, once open, once closed, that is quickstep, a little bit of swing. A good night for you tonight.”
Brian also praised the Aslan star; “A Town Called Malice…some people would say I like a malicious comment – but not tonight! The arms need work, but great energy, great characterisation, yes, job done.”
Irish model Missy Keating was next out with her partner, Ervinas Merfeldas. The pair danced a dramatic tango to ‘Prisoner’ by Miley Cyrus and their efforts scored them a 22 from the judges.
Brian said; “Tango of two halves. Top half excellent, spine and head position. You need to tidy your feet a bit. Bit of a swan of a tango. A very good attempt.”
Loraine also commented; “Useful tango – stalking action with circle. You need to get hip line slightly forward, slight up. You’ve got it. Give us more.”
Love Island star, Matthew MacNabb and pro-dancer Laura Nolan were the fifth to take to the floor. The pair scored a 14 from the judges after dancing a salsa to ‘X’ by the Jonas Brothers.
Reviewing their performance Arthur said; “Those lifts, I thought I was watching the Olympics.” You need to loosen up. I applaud you for it.”
Loraine added; “The Saving grace were the 2 L’s – Laura and lifts. You have to have hip action. Those hips are not moving as they should for a salsa. Good effort, but not good enough.”
Former jockey Nina Carberry and past DWTS winner, Pasquale La Rocca danced to ‘If the World Just Danced’ by Diana Ross. The pair scored an impressive 21 from the judges.
Brian shared his thoughts on their performance; “I thought the first section was excellent. Leg action was bit forced. Everything else was there. You need to start believing in your legs. A blast from start to finish.”
Arthur added; “So good to see a different side to Nina – the cha cha – the best number for to show us. Legs a little bit open but we had fun.”
Aengus Mac Grianna was the third celebrity to be eliminated from the show. The former newsreader performed a jive to Billy Joel’s ‘All Shook Up’ on Sunday night with pro-dancer, Emily Barker which scored them a 17 with the judges.
The pair received mostly positive feedback from the judges with Loraine sharing; “Totally in the zone there, in your element. Used prop really well. Twinkle toes – a little bit. A good jive.”
Arthur’s feedback was equally as positive as he said; “Dancing is so much fun and so hard. Jive never stops. You never stopped. You danced your socks off. Bravo.” However despite their glowing comments it wasn’t enough to keep Aengus in the competition.
Swimmer Ellen Keane and Stephen Vincent danced an emotional performance to ‘We are Beautiful’ to Unsecret X Lyra. Their incredible performance scored them an impressive 27 from the judges.
Arthur said; “Such an emotional performance. I was so captivated by you. No greater feeling in the world than feeling like you are in the moment, in the music. You are a dancer. You are Beautiful.”
Loraine added; “A beautiful but heartfelt message. You took off that sleeve and took off. Both sides equally matching. Sensational.”
Gráinne Seoige was up next as she danced to Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Cheek to Cheek.’ The TV presenter and pro-dancer John Nolan scored a 19 from the judges for their American Smooth
Loraine commented on their performance; “Great to see you back to full health and fitness. One tiny mistake but you turned elegance back on. Your best dance yet.”
Arthur added; “You had a hard week last week. You picked yourself up and what a come back. Tonight it was smooooooth.”
The final couple out on the floor was rugby player Jordan Conroy and pro-dancer Salmone Chachua. They closed the show with a moody paso doble to ‘Paint it Black’ by Escala scoring them a 27 from the judges.
Arthur was full of praise saying; “Incredible cape work – bravo. For dancing you have to gave the full package. Head, legs, face. You had it all.”
Brian added; “As far as paso dobles go. Butch as a builders breakfast. Congratulations Salome on the choreography. Leg lines a little bit weak at times, but a great job and off you go.”
