While Roz Purcell recently revealed to VIP that cosmetic surgery isn’t for her, the model turned foodie makes sure to take care of her skin in different ways.

A recent survey conducted by skin supplement brand, Imedeen, has found that 70% of women in Ireland wish they had better skin, and 30% wouldn’t leave the house without make-up, but Roz believes it’s hugely important that women start to feel confident in their own body.

She said, “This research confirms women feel pressure to look a certain way and lack the confidence to be happy with their natural skin. It’s easier said than done, and we all struggle with it, but taking care of yourself from the inside can really help how you feel and can boost your confidence. I love make-up and experimenting with different looks but I think it’s really important that we don’t hide behind it and are happy with what is underneath the war paint.”

We caught up with Roz, who has recently become the brand ambassador for the Imdeen Reveal Your Real campaign, to hear how she keeps her skin looking so well – and who’d have thought it would be so simple?!

Now we'll all have fab skin!
We LOVE her tips

1. “Drink loads and loads of water! I know we constantly hear how we’re supposed drink lots of water but that’s for a good reason. One of the things I notice about my own skin is that it’s always feeling it’s best when I keep hydrated. I always have it in my gym bag, on the desk beside me working away or at home watching TV. Sometimes it’s a habit you’ve to make yourself get in to but it really is my top tip for good skin. Moisturisers are invented to make our skin moist, what better way to do that than drinking water and hydrating from the inside out,” she said.

2. “Fresh fruit and veg are a must. I have a well-balanced diet and am very conscious of what I eat from snacks to bigger meals, whether I’m cooking myself or eating out, and one of the things I try to be conscious about is to make sure the foods I’m eating are packed full of nutrients. To supply our skin with all the vitamins and minerals it needs on daily basis, there should be lots of leafy greens in there, and where possible some good fat sources and veggies too,” she said.

3. Roz revealed, “Avoid over doing it on the sugar. It’s easier said than done with so many food having sugar content, but as much as possible I just try to avoid processed sugary foods. Obviously there’s sugar in fruit which isn’t that bad a factor, it’s more the sweets and cakes that are the baddies. If I’m ever looking for a treat, I’ll make something up or be conscious of what I’m treating myself to so there aren’t unnecessary empty calories in there with no nutritional benefit . As well as contributing to weight gain, diabetes and heart disease, sugar can also cause wrinkling of the skin which is something we don’t often hear about. It’s difficult to completely cut sugar out of your life but being a little more careful and having a read of food labels means you can keep on top of the amount of sugar you adding to your diet. It’s no harm to get to know the amounts of sugar in various foods and then gradually reduce it.”

4. “Taking beauty supplements are a major one for me. IMEDEEN Derma One is the one I go for, it’s been formulated to work on skin aged 25+ which is perfect for me. Especially in our climate where we have a lot of cold weather and hot or air conditioned offices and homes, a supplement gives our skin a little extra ammo too look it’s best. Derma One has marine complex in it which reaches the deeper skin layer, something normal creams and serums don’t do. Of course I always take my make up off at night (an absolute rule of mine!) and put moisturiser on, but for me and the industry I’m in, there are days where I have make up on all day and sometimes 2 or 3 applications which is tough on the skin. Something like IMEDEEN helps battle external factors like that and protect my skin even when I’m not thinking about it,” she said.

5. Finally, she says, “Sleep is a must! Getting plenty of rest is vital to keep a healthy complexion. It might sound dull but think about how your skin looks when you’re tired. It’s the first thing I notice when I haven’t had enough sleep. Tiredness can really affect how the skin looks especially around the eyes and it’s one of those things where consistency is key. We all have our late nights for various reasons, but if I’m home relaxing and don’t have any reason to be up late I’ll go to bed and I’ve gotten in to the habit of that . Getting enough sleep helps keep the fine lines and dark circles around the eye area at bay, and I know myself no amount of concealer or make up can hide dull skin if I’m wrecked.”
