As Virgin Media Ireland prepare for their take over, the future is uncertain for a number of TV3’s top personalities.
According to reports in the Sun, while the likes of Ireland AM are secure for now, “cheaper” shows including Midday, fronted by Elaine Crowley, could be facing the axe.
An insider told the newspaper, “Midday doesn’t even register with the existing management of TV3. It’s the cheapest to make show on TV3, maybe the cheapest show on Irish TV.”
The insider went on to say that the new changes will ‘revolutionise’ the station.
“Liberty Global has ties to so many programme distributors. This is going to revolutionise TV3’s international content overnight. Home produced shows will see even bigger changes with massive investment, the like of which has never been seen before,” they said.
Shortly after the announcing his departure from the station, former CEO David McRedmond said, “TV3 has consistently punched about its weight to complete in the Irish market and with the backing of the world’s largest international cable company, TV3 can now achieve it’s full potential.”
It might be good for the station, but we’re not too sure how Elaine will feel about this…
