Eight events around Ireland to celebrate St Brigid’s Day

Each year, St Brigid’s Day celebrations become more and more popular in Ireland, especially after we got another bank holiday in honour of the country’s patroness saint.

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate, there are a ton of festivals, concerts, workshops and more happening all over the country, and we’ve made a list of just a few that you should check out.

Burren National Park Guided Walks

Heading to Burren National Park is a great way to celebrate St Brigid and the beginning of spring with the whole family. Among their events for the weekend are the Signs of Spring guided walk, where you can spot signs of flora and fauna awakening after the cold winter, and the Spring Stories guided walk, where you can immerse yourself in nature while listening to Irish folklore stories.

Opening with a ceremony to honour the patroness saint, this festival includes a number of events from concerts and art exhibitions to sunrise walking tours. There’s really something for everyone at this festival.

Brigit’s Garden Cross Making Workshops

There are loads of Brigid’s cross – making workshops happening around the country during the bank holiday weekend, but Brigid’s Garden in Galway is hosting a workshop completely free of charge. The workshop is family-friendly and they accept donations to support the facility.

Brigid and Beyond: The women of Irish folklore

This public talk held at the National Library is a part of the Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women festival. This free event lets you listen to folklorist Glynnis Crowley as she explains how Brigid shares a lot of traits with other admirable women in Irish folklore.

Children and guardians will be guided on a joyful journey, exploring the flowers, colours, sights and sounds of spring, through stories, song and imaginative play. Birthplace of Brigid

Brigid’s story is celebrated across Ireland, beginning in Faughart, just outside Dundalk, where her life, as saint, goddess and enduring symbol of renewal, first unfolded. Her legacy remains visible in Louth’s landscape, in seasonal rituals, and in the communities that continue to honour her each February.
