Eamonn Holmes reveals four hour ambulance wait after major fall following back surgery


Eamonn Holmes is opening up about the fall he suffered after undergoing back surgery, revealing he had to wait four hours for the ambulance to arrive.

Just two weeks after his operation, the 63-year-old had a major accident after falling down the stairs.

Remebering the pain, Eamonn told the Daily Mail: “Suddenly it was as if someone had shot my left knee from behind.”

“It literally collapsed without any warning. I was on a curve of the stairs, and I just went back down the stairs, boom, boom, boom down the whole staircase until I hit the stone floor in the hallway. Blood was pouring out my mouth, and a bone was sticking out my shoulder.”

The Belfast man revealed wife Ruth Langsford rushed to his aid, phoning for an ambulance, which took four hours to arrive.

Recalling the incident, he explained: “Ruth came rushing down the stairs. She kept saying, ‘You’re fine, everything’s okay, you’re fine.’ I said, ‘Ruthie, there is a bone sticking out of my shoulder — I’m not fine’.”

“Ruthie put a pillow under my head and sat with me in the hall and we tried to sleep.”

The fall was a major set back in Eamonn’s recovery, but lucky the news presenter is back on track now, even returning to work at GB News recently.


Eamonn underwent the major spinal operation he in September.

Prior to the surgery, the presenter explained the Express: “This week a surgeon will cut into my back to hopefully relieve pressure on my sciatic nerves. It’s an operation that carries a 20 per cent risk of going wrong, but such is the pain and restrictions that I have been suffering for the past 18 months, I’ve decided it is a risk I am willing to take.”

While the operation went, the recovery process proved very challenging.

With the 63-year-old telling GB News: “It’s been a hellish few weeks. But day by day I’m improving and I am remaining positive and trying to look on the bright side.”
