Eileen O’Riordan has opened up about the death of her daughter, as her anniversary approaches.
Dolores O’Riordan passed away on January 15th last year by accidental drowning in London.
Now, as the first anniversary approaches, Eileen says it feels like it has just happened, but says she is accepting her death is final.
“It doesn’t feel like a year. It feels as if the funeral is just ending. I know she is not coming back,” she told Limerick Leader.
Eileen also recalled how fans and friends pay respect at Dolores’ graveside, and leave gifts.
“People are still leaving items there. There are three guitars there now I think,” she said.
“The flowers are lovely. I got a lunch box before Christmas and have put all the letters into it. We received a lot of cards at Christmas…People mean so well.”
She added that although she accepts that her daughter is gone, she sometimes forgets that she can’t just speak to her.
“For a split second I feel I must tell her.”
“You have to keep going and make the best of it.”
There will be two anniversary masses held for Dolores on January 13th in Limerick.
One will be near her home at St Ailbe’s Church, in Ballybricken at 11am.
A second mass will be held at 11.30 at St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, in Limerick city.
Eileen explained that all are welcome to attend.
“They are both open to the public. We would love to see people there. We decided on the second mass for people who wanted to go Limerick city.”
