Irish athlete Derval O’Rourke and her husband Peter O’Leary have just welcomed their first child to the world.
The happy couple had the baby in Cork University Maternity Hospital a couple of days ago, and couldn’t be more proud of little Daphne.
“Hugely grateful to all the amazing staff in CUMH. Delighted to welcome baby Dafne O’Leary to the world a few days ago,” Derval said on Twitter.
Derval had previously admitted that once she retired, she’d like to start having babies, but wasn’t in any immediate rush to do so.
Speaking to VIP last October, the athlete said “The funny thing about that is that when I retired, I found I needed to mentally adjust to not being a runner, and that’s just going to take a little bit of time. I think that until I’m happy with that and that I’m happy with the other directions I want to go in my life, I just won’t think about having kids.”
Derval has obviously sorted out what direction she wants her life to go in, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
