It was a big night for Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson as she took home the award for Best Comedy Performance at the National Comedy Awards, for her role as Erin in the hit series.

But while it is a massive achievement, the mood was soured slightly as the two British presenters struggled to say her Irish name.

We’ve seen plenty of Americans struggle to say Saoirse Ronan, and unfortunately as similar situation occurred as the presenters pronounced her name as “Source” Monica Jackson.

Saoirse won’t there on the night to collect her award or correct them, and has yet to address the mispronunciation. But fans have been sharing their reactions online.

Meanwhile Ireland AM host Muireann O’Connell also called out the mispronunciation. While watching the awards on TV, she shared the clip to her Instagram story, saying in the background: “Lads, prepare them for the name…Morto.”

Writing: “G’wan Saoirse Monica Jackson on the class award.”

The Derry native has been receiving plenty of congratulations on earning the prestigious award. Her boyfriend, DJ Denis Sulta took to Instagram to say: “You absolute legend, congratulations”

While her Derry Girls co-star Jamie Lee O’Donnell also congratulated her.

Congratulations to Saoirse-Monica on the well deserved win!
