Just yesterday it was revealed that Dermot O’Leary was in talks with ITV about hosting this year’s Brit Awards. The news came after Michael Bublé was forced to step down from the hosting duties, to be with his son Noah who is currently battling cancer.
Now the X Factor presenter has confirmed that he will indeed be hosting this year’s glamorous awards ceremony, but is saddened by the circumstances.
Dermot, who is also preparing to host the National Television Awards tonight, did admit however, that it is an honour to have been asked to fill Michael’s shoes.
Speaking to The Sun the proud Wexford man said, “Obviously it’s hugely flattering to be asked, I’d much rather be asked in different circumstances though.
“We should not forget in this that a little boy is really ill and his dad’s got to take time off to look after him.
“I’m not saying that schmaltzy way, it’s obviously important. That said though, it’s a tough gig and it’s a huge gig to be asked to do.
“But I want to get the NTAs out of the way first before I sit down so I’m just concentrating on the NTAs.”
