David Waliiams is set to receive a prestigious award in Ireland next month.
Though the star is known for his many talents including acting, comedy and judging Britain’s got Talent, this special award is for his writing.
The hugely popular children’s author will is to be presented with the ‘International Recognition Award’ at this year’s Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards ceremony.
Walliams will receive the accolade in recognition of his significant contribution to children’s literature in the past decade.
Speaking about the award, the actor said: “This is delightful news. I am so pleased that my friends in Ireland have given me this huge honour.
“I love writing books for children and will continue doing so for as long as people want to read them.”
The children’s author has had global sales exceeding 20 million copies and his books have been translated into 53 languages.
The awards, which take place in Dublin on November 28th is the biggest event in the Irish literary calendar, and brings together the entire literary community – readers, authors, booksellers, publishers and librarians.
Well-known figures including Seamus Heaney, Maeve Binchy, Graham Norton, Cecelia Ahern and Marian Keyes have previously graced the stage.
The award show, presenter by Keeling Shanley will be broadcast on RTE One at 9.30pm on Wednesday the 29th of November.
