David McCullagh announced as new co-presenter of RTE’s Six One News

RTE’s Six One News will be looking slightly different come September as the network has announced a new presenter. David McCullagh will be joining Caitríona Perry as a co-presenter later this year.

David has plenty of experience as he has been hosting Prime Time with Miriam O’Callaghan for some time, making him a face the country will already be familiar with.

David has said he is excited to be joining the team and “continuing the work of our much beloved colleague, Keelin Shanley.”

Keelin, 51, passed away earlier this year after battling cancer for some time. Sharing the heartbreaking news, RTÉ Director-General, Dee Forbes, said: “Everybody at RTÉ is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague and friend Keelin Shanley.

“A passionate and dedicated public service journalist, Keelin had an expertise that challenged and probed as well as an ease that endeared her to all.”

Jon Williams, Director of RTE News and Current Affairs announced the news of David’s appointment ;

“David is one of Ireland’s most formidable journalists. For seven years, at Prime Time, he’s sought answers from scientists to Taoisigh, moderating – with Miriam – our Election 2020 Leaders’ Debate, and helping the programme reach some of the biggest audiences in its history during the Covid-19 lockdown.”

“There could be no one better equipped to join Caitríona on Six One as Ireland emerges from this emergency facing some difficult challenges, and heads towards the centenary of the foundation of the State”.
