Country singer Lisa McHugh has opened up about her daughter, Hallie’s time in NICU.

Lisa welcomed her daughter in July 2024 with her husband, Nathan Khan, however, things took a scary turn in November after poor little Hallie was rushed to hospital.

Hallie had sadly contracted RSV, but thankfully after 10 days spent in the neonatal intensive care unit, she was released.

Reflecting on the tough time, Lisa said: “Whenever Hallie was born she was perfect, but within the first half hour she started struggling with her breathing, she was grunting and stuff, and she just wasn’t settling – even with skin to skin.

“So they were like, ‘We’re going to take her and get her checked,’ and they realised that she still wasn’t stabilising, so she had to be put on the CPAP, which is like the wee helmet they get when they’re in the incubator for the oxygen and stuff.

“So she was on a lot of machines and it was horrible just to go in and see them, they’re just so helpless, just lying there – just covered in wires and it was horrible,” she added.

Chatting on the Everymum podcast, Lisa explained how she was then told that Hallie would be kept overnight due to her condition.

“[Nurses said] We’ll bring her down, bring you down to see her, to be with her, but just to give you a heads up, she does have a good few, like, wires and monitors and things on, so just to prepare you for that before you go in.”

Sadly Hallie had to be moved to another hospital, and due to a lack of available beds, Lisa could not go with her.

“That was horrendous, literally just handing her over to be put in the monitor to travel up – I spent the entire day crying.”

Thankfully, Lisa was later allowed to stay in the corridor just across from Haliie, and after 10 days, she made a full recovery.

We’re glad to hear she’s better!
