It sure looks like it!
Yes, according to showrunner Russell T Davies, Nicola Coughlan will be appearing in the long-running science-fiction show for a Doctor Who Christmas special.
Speaking during a Q&A session following a press screening of The Star Beast, the first of the BBC series’ annual specials, Russel was asked if he could reveal anyone who will be making a guest appearance in the next series.
“Nicola Coughlan at Christmas — not this Christmas, next Christmas,” Davies said.
“We’re shooting Christmas 2024 now.”
Doctor Who fans will also be happy to hear the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate in just a few weeks for a trio of 60th anniversary specials.
It also seems that Doctor Who isn’t the only Christmas special that Nicola has been confirmed for this week, as it was recently announced that she will be one of the guest stars for a seasonal instalment of the CBBC show Dodger which also stars the Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston.
The children’s series serves as a prequel to the events of Oliver Twist and is inspired by the Artful Dodger.
And while we don’t know what character Nicola will be playing in Doctor Who, we can confirm that she’ll be playing none other than Queen Victoria in Dodger.
Still to come from Nicola is the highly anticipated third series of Bridgerton, which is expected to land on our screens sometime next year.
Nicola will of course take centre stage as her character Penelope Featherington alongside Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, after it was confirmed this season would be based on their love story.
We can’t wait!
