Christy Moore has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his father, when he was just a child.
His father Andy (41) went to hospital for a routine procedure, but sadly passed away and never returned home.
“I can remember everything about the day very clearly. Luke was only six months and we all still live with it in different ways even though its a long time ago now – it’s 65 years, it remains with us,” he told Ray D’Arcy.
“I remember being in 5th class with Brother Brendan and Fr McNally coming in and calling me out and said, ‘I think you should go home your mammy wants to see you.’
“I cycled up the town and when I got to the top of the town and I went in and the house was packed”.
Christy revealed his mum Nancy dedicated her life to the kids, and influenced their love of music.
“Mammy took the baton up then and she dedicated her life to rearing us and looking after us. As well as all that, instilling a love of song in us- she was a great woman to sing and play the piano,” he said.
“She really wanted us to have the best chance in life that we could have and she dedicated her life to that, selflessly, until we were all done.
“She became a very close friend to us all and her spirit still lives on, all six of us still talk about her. We are all still in touch and I constantly reference mammy.”
