Top celebrity hair stylist David Marshall has paid a touching tribute to his late son, Daniel, who passed away from a drugs overdose in 2014.
Aged 25, Daniel passed away in the bathrooms of a Dublin hotel after taking a mixture of prescribed drugs and heroin.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, David said, “I’m still not over it. The longer it goes on, the more you realise that he’s not coming back. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.”
David revealed how he and his ex-wife, Jackie Rafter, tried to do everything they could to help Daniel overcome his addiction, but even though they thought he was doing well after his stint in rehab, he believes they should never have taken their eyes off him.
“Hindsight is a great thing. You have to be hands-on with your children. You can’t take your eyes off the ball.
“Daniel was a beautiful child in every sense of the word. He was a good looking lad with charm and an extremely creative talent. He was never a problem, and had a big interest and talent in sports, especially rugby.”
He added: “It was in his early teens that things began to change. He was starting to have trouble at school and he was becoming a handful.
“As a young man, he was always the one looking for kicks and adventure, but this then got out of hand.”
