Catherine Fulvio has described the overwhelming feeling of loneliness following the death of her dad last year.
Charlie sadly passed away suddenly in September 2020, at their farm in Co. Wicklow.
Recalling that heartbreaking period of time, Catherine said, “Dad had been tying up a gate and still had the rope in his hand. So it was very sudden but there is no consolation in that.
“Even though we were very close, you always hope for those last words, things you’d like to have said.”
Speaking to the RTE Guide, she continued, “I suppose on a positive note, if there’s an ideal death for a farmer, it would be to pass away as you’re closing a gate.
“Dad’s dog Pippa was with him when he died and wouldn’t leave his side. She didn’t leave until the ambulance took him away. Then she went home.”
Following the death of her mam in the late ’90s, the pair grew incredibly close and she admits the loss of both parents has knocked her.
“When mam died, I was totally lost. But within the space of the following 18 months or so, I grew so attached to dad and he became my rock in every way,” she said.
“I confided in him about everything. So it’s a very lonely feeling now with him gone because you feel the finality of it all”.
