Carl Mullan’s family holiday has taken an unfortunate turn thanks to a sudden power blackout.
Yes, a massive power outage has struck Spain, Portugal, and parts of southern France, leaving millions without electricity and disrupting essential services across the region.
And sadly for Carl, his wife Aisling and their three kids, they just happen to be caught right in the middle of it.
Taking to Instagram, Carl broke the news to his followers with a selfie, complete with an old man face filter, alongside a screenshot of the ‘mass blackout’ headlines.

This trip marked Carl and Aisling’s first holiday abroad since becoming officially “outnumbered” with the arrival of their third child, and judging by Carl’s digitally aged face, the chaos might be adding a few extra grey hairs and wrinkles!
In a video shared to his story, Carl revealed that he had no power for the “last few hours”, so their villa host dropped off several head torches and candles for them.
Carl later posted a video of his wife Aisling trying to relax with their youngest asleep on her, revealing that she had washed her hair by torchlight, only to realise afterwards that she couldn’t dry it because of the blackout.
In the video, Carl can be heard wheezing with laughter before adding, “I actually can’t even see you.”
He also shared clips of the “stunning” views, though they couldn’t actually be seen in the darkness, as well as grabbing a “nice warm beer” from the fridge.
It just keeps getting worse!
Thankfully, power has now been mostly restored across Spain, with substations in Portugal also gradually coming back online.
So, with any luck, Carl and his family will be able to get their holiday back on track in no time!
