For a while it seemed that gin was the only spirit worth talking about.
Thankfully, whiskey is finally beginning to get the appreciation it deserves.
If you are a lover of the spirit and want a whiskey-themed day out, we’d found just the thing.
While distillery and brewery tours have been popular for quite some time now, Teeling distillery have a more exciting package available.
Thanks to Airbnb’s new Experiences, you can feel like a tourist in your own city by trying the best days out the area has to offer.
One Experience I was particularly excited about was the distillery tour followed by a cocktail masterclass.
The best part of this is that even non-whiskey lovers can enjoy this day, so you can bring along a friend or your other half and convert them by the end of the tour.
I (a whiskey lover) headed along with a friend who never touches the stuff to the Teeling Distillery in Newmarket, Dublin.
The experience starts with a tour of the distillery, where their whiskey is made.
We first hear about the company and how the business came about.
The Teeling Distillery is the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years and only opened its doors to tours in 2015.
We then move onto the production side of things and see how the drink is actually made.
After a brief but informative tour, it’s on to the whiskey tasting.
We are treated to three varieties of the whiskey; Small Batch, Single Grain and Single Malt.
The trio vary in taste and strength so even those who seldom drink whiskey will sample one they enjoy.
After the tasting we move on to what is the best part of the experience, the cocktail class.
Here we are greeted by the host Theresa who chats to us about the whiskey and the distillery.
She then shows us how to make two gorgeous cocktails while having a friendly and informal chat about the drinks, living in Dublin and life in general.
First up, she creates the delicious and fruity Red Leg Rebellion.

It is made with Teeling Small Batch, Velvet Falernum Liquor, Lime Juice and Pineapple Syrup and can be described a thoroughly refreshing, but with a bite!
This is followed by a delicious Irish coffee that even non-whiskey drinkers would adore.

It’s warm, creamy and comforting, with the Teeling Small Batch and the coffee compliment each other perfectly.
The experience was the perfect day out, even for someone living in Dublin full time.
You can check out the Whiskey Tour & Cocktails tour hosted by Theresa and Chris here.
If you’re still not convinced that whiskey is up your alley there are also beer experiences, pub tours and plenty of other non-alcholic days out that you can go for.
