Caitriona Perry has paid an emotional tribute to her friend Keelin Shanley on the first anniversary of her passing.
The RTE broadcaster sadly died last February at the age of 51, nine years after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Catriona and Keelin worked together for a number of years, and formed a great bond during that time.
Marking the first year without her, Caitriona revealed Keelin’s constantly on her mind, and missed so much.
“Thinking of this legend today – the superstar mother, wife, sister, daughter, journalist, colleague and wonderful friend Keelin Shanley,” she began.
“She slipped away this day last year, but is held as tightly as always in the hearts and minds of those of us who miss her madly.
“Thinking too of all those who have been bereaved in this past year…Covid might like to party, but it is no friend of grief.”
Keelin, who had two beautiful children Lucy and Ben, tried to keep the kids informed of her prognosis and prepare them for the devastating eventuality that she would pass.
While on the Late Late Show, her husband Conor spoke about how he and Keelin had to tell their children the heartbreaking news.
“That was hard for her and hard for all of us. And telling the kids was really hard. They were 11 and 13,”he said.

“Keelin had always drip fed information to them or let them know what was going on or speak quite candidly in front of them to other people about what was going on so at least they got a sense of what could happen.”
“So when it cam to actually telling them ‘there’s no more treatment’, it was really really hard but they were just so brave,” he added.
“They were really just amazing. They took the information in and obviously it was a very intimate time for us. We really felt that the kids just seemed to manage it.”
Our thoughts are with them all at this difficult time.
