Brendan O’Carroll has spoken out about Rory Cowan’s decision to leave the show for the first time since a brief discussion on Twitter.

The show creator, who plays Agnes Brown, compared Rory leaving the show to another famous departure.

“To all of us it feels like Ronaldo leaving Man Utd. But Ronaldo went on to amazing success which I know Rory will too,” he told the Sun.

Brendan added that Rory was much more than a co-worker.

“I can’t even quantify the contribution Rory has made to our success and the well-being of me and my family, not just on screen or stage but way before that as a friend and a driving force in getting us here. He’s a legend.”

Rory announced this week that he was leaving Mrs Brown’s Boys after 26 years.

“I hadn’t been happy working for the Mrs Brown’s Boys company for the last 18 months to two years,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I feel that 26 years is enough so I decided it was time to go. I told Brendan on June 16 about my decision to leave. That’s when I handed in my notice.

“I was supposed to leave at the end of that week, but Brendan said that would be impossible and asked if I’d stay on until the end of the London O2 gigs. So I agreed to that.”

The actor later elaborated that he was ‘bored’ by doing the same thing over and over.

“We were covering the same routes and playing the same venues and it just got a bit dull and repetitive,” he told the Herald.

“Life on the road can be boring and I would be staying in apartments I didn’t really like. And the time off stage was dragging.

“If I stayed doing the tours, I would know what my life was going to be like until 2022. It would have been the same venues and places.”

Brendan chatted to disappointed fans on Twitter yesterday adding that he wished the news was a joke.
