Brendan O’Carroll has revealed that real-life events inspired his hit sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys.
Who knew?!
Yes, the actor and comedian, who is best known for playing matriarch Agnes Brown in the hit comedy series, has admitted to drawing on personal experiences and people from his past to shape the show’s beloved characters and storylines.
Brendan is due to reprise his iconic role in a new miniseries, which is due to air on 1 August on RTÉ One and BBC One.
As always, the storyline follows Mrs Brown as her meddling in the lives of family and friends leads to a series of chaotic misadventures.
Speaking about the new series, Brendan said: “Believe it or not, most of the storylines are based on true events that either happened to my family or have been told to me by people about their families.
“Everybody has a story, and it’s quite common for someone in a family to say in the middle of a family disaster, ‘This is like an episode of Mrs Brown’s Boys’.
“In every episode, there is something that stands out for me,” he added.
“I love being Agnes Brown and I love her family, and her neighbours like Winnie and Birdy.”
In the new series, Mrs Brown finds herself at the centre of a podcast, lends a hand as Winnie attempts to pass her driving test, and unexpectedly joins a book club, where she discovers an unexpected “passion” for steamy romance novels.
