Emmie Reek, a drag queen from Brazil, wowed the coaches at the Voice of Ireland auditions, last night, with her dazzling rendition of Adele’s One and Only. Rachel Steven’s was the first to turn her chair around, clearly impressed by the 27-year-old’s dulcet tones, and it wasn’t long before all coaches turned their chairs around, all vying to claim Emmie for their team.
In the end, Emmie, who describes herself as a “Singer-songwriter, performer, fighter, dubliner” on her Twitter account, went for Team Una. Clearly delighted with the addition to her team, Una said: “ I’m so happy to have Emmie on my team – I think this is the whole beauty of the blinds, just to savour the moment of not knowing exactly what they like, but yes I’m going to turn for this person…in my head, visualise what they’re going to look like. I turn around and there she is in her lovely black dress and gorgeous legs. So yeah, a winner.”
However, it wasn’t all celebrations, as Emmie, who has been living in Ireland for the past year, had to make the difficult decision whether to postpone her wedding day, which would clash with The Battles round. Her fiancé helped her make the difficult decision, however, telling Emmie, “It’s your dream, you have to follow your dream. A wedding we can always postpone.”
We wish her the best of luck, and can’t wait to see how she gets on in the coming weeks.
