Baz Ashmawy says he’s overwhelmed by positive response to his complicated relationship with father

Over the weekend, national treasure Baz Ashmawy opened up about his complicated relationship with his father on the Tommy Tiernan show.

Since laying his feelings bare, fans of the 45-year-old have been sharing their praise and admiration for him.

Saying he feels ‘so moved’ by the kindness people have shown him, Baz took to his Instagram stories last night.

“I just wanted to say, I was inundated with messages since the Tommy Tiernan Show”

“I’m just so moved. They’re just so lovely, that people would take the time and I try to reply to everybody but sometimes I haven’t got to everybody yet,” he continued.

“It meant a lot for me that people would support the way I was talking and it resonated with people and that they’d share their stories with me”

“It means a lot. It’s the good side of social media, I suppose, is when you get these kinds of messages from people and I loved it.”

The presenter bravely opened up about the relationship he has with his estranged father on the show, revealing that his Dad left his Mum when he was eight years old.

His father, Mohammed Ussri Ismaill, split from his mother, living first in America and then moving back to Egypt, having lost touch with him, Baz explained that for much of his life he told people his father had died, rather than revealing the truth.

“There was a couple of different versions of how he died. It was easier to say he died than to say your dad left.”
