Reminiscing on special moments with his mammy Nancy, Baz Ashmawy reveals one of the greatest lessons he’s learned from her over the years, is appreciating the joy of travel and sense of adventure.
The pair, who previously featured on 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy, travelled the world together for the show, seeking out new places and taking part in stunts across the globe.
Their love of adventure came long before that though, as Nancy tried to instil an appreciation for the world, taking him to to as many places as she could when he was a child.
“We had these great adventures on our holidays,” Baz told us at the launch of the Aldi Mother’s Day Campaign.
“I think when you’re a kid, it’s the illusion of keeping your kid a kid for as long as possible. My mum was very, very good at doing that. On those holidays, it was only me, her and maybe my gran or something like that.”

Nancy’s personal favourite, was a spooky number, as she recalled a trip to Transylvania with her boy.
“Oh, maybe when we went on our the first or second holiday to Dracula’s Castle,” she said with a smile.
Baz added, “Oh yeah! Back in the eighties, we used to go on these very random holidays. Mum loved to travel but she took me to Transylvania in November. I remember we went to Dracula’s Castle. She gave me that sense of adventure.”
And while he adored that, Baz’s favourite was an award-winning holiday that’ll stay with him for the rest of his life.
“Mum had never been to New York, and the first time she went there, they picked her up in the limo, we went to the Emmys and she won an award that night. That was mad. It was so cool and that’ll always stay with me.”

While they love a trip together, Nancy is embarking on a solo one of her own this month. The pair won’t be spending Mother’s Day together this year, as Nancy will be lapping up the sunshine in Gran Canaria instead.
“I took her around the world and we did like 18 countries in three years and she just kept banging on about the Canaries,” Baz laughed.
“I took her to the source of the Nile in Uganda and anytime she was sat down beside someone she was like, ‘Have you been to the Canaries?’
“I get it actually, I was out there recently with her. That kind of living-in-the-moment mood, it’s a nice way of life, it’s really nice. But we’re not together for Mother’s Day. She’s like, ‘I’m out of here. I’m gone’ but I don’t blame her!” [laughs]

Baz and Nancy have teamed up with ALDI for their new Mother’s Day campaign to find Ireland’s Favourite Child.
“It’s just a fun campaign to get involved in and it’s a nice little prize for mom and for for whoever the golden child is. It was a no-brainer for us,” said Baz.
The lucky winner will have the chance to scoop €10,000 in ALDI gift cards this Mother’s Day – €5,000 for you and €5,000 for your mam.
