Pierce Brosnan visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week for his new role in The Foreigner.

The star also chatted about some of his other big roles including James Bond and Thomas Crown.

However, the conversation got a little bit awkward when Stephen asked Pierce about being a British icon.

First, Stephen asks the actor about growing up in Nothern Ireland.

Pierce politely corrects the host, explaining that he is in fact from Southern Ireland.

“Southern Ireland – I grew up on the banks of the River Boyne in County Meath, about sixty miles outside of Dublin.”

Colbert replies: “Oh Southern Ireland, I didn’t know that,” before asking the actor what it’s like being a British icon.

Though the phrasing of the question seems strange, for someone who just clarified that he is from Ireland, the chat show host clarifies that he’s wondering about Brosnan’s accent.

“Where is your accent from, is what I’m asking,” he added.

Pierce, who looks a little unimpressed, handles it very well by explaining that his accent got ‘mangled’ after moving away from Ireland.

“I got mangled from trying to fit in. I left Ireland in 1964 as a country boy trying to fit in to a different community and society in South London,” Pierce explained.

You can watch the whole interview below, and check out that awkward moment at the 2.56 minute mark.
