Virgin Media star Elaine Crowley has opened up about body image, and revealed that she felt miserable when she was at her thinnest.
On her tv show, Elaine and her panel spoke about Demi Lovato’s recent comments on why people shouldn’t comment on other people’s bodies, encouraging others to stop complimenting people on their weight loss.
This led Elaine to open up about her own experiences, sharing that many people say to her she looks “way thinner in real life” than she does on TV.
Elaine then went on to explain that when she was at her thinnest, she wasn’t happy. “If I hear once more God you look way thinner in real life than you do on telly and it’s a compliment for people.
“The interesting thing is at my thinnest I was at my most miserable because I was so upset I couldn’t eat.
“I was so depressed, my clinical depression had gone through the roof and I actually remember struggling to eat a slice of toast just to line my stomach for the day because I was that miserable and that was no good place to be either.”
Continuing, Elaine also shared that she doesn’t like the misconception that she is unhealthy because of her weight.
“I’ve been working in TV for 20 years and one kind person online called me ‘classy but chunky’ and I’ve always had that kind of label thrown at me.”
Before adding: “What I hated for many years was the misconception that because I wasn’t your standard-sized TV presenter that I was a. unfit and b. unhealthy.”
