Arthur Gourounlian shares his top tips for staying active during lockdown

@arthurgourounlian

With so many of us at home at the moment, we are more than likely not moving quite as much as we normally do. We are not only missing the gym we but also lacking motivation.

We caught up with dancer and choreographer, Arthur Gourounlian to find out how he’s keeping himself motivated and active whilst in lockdown.

It’s quite hard to keep up a fitness routine at the moment with everyone stuck at home, what do you do to stay motivated?
I’ve always been a positive person and I love life. I also love to create. I’m a get-up and go kind of person. Life keeps me motivated.

If you don’t have any workout equipment at home, is there anything you can use as an alternative?
I’m not a gym person at all and much prefer to dance to stay in shape, but if you decide to work out at home you actually don’t need any equipment. You can use your body effectively. There are lots of exercises you can do without needing equipment. Basically no excuses guys!

What workouts would you suggest that require zero equipment?
For 10 weeks I created Arthur’s Thursday Moves or if you are an Instagram person they are all on my IGTV. It’s a great workout without needing any equipment. Don’t worry you don’t have to be a dancer. Just follow what I’m doing on screen. A three minute full on dance/workout routine will make you sweat!

This is a great time to maybe try some different workouts, is there any you would recommend?
Why not give TikTok a go there are so many work out and dance tutorials on there. Grab yourself a Fitbit and get those steps in, walking is a great form of exercise. Doing a HIT session is also great. Joe Wicks, The Body Coach is the king of this.

As a dancer, are there any YouTuber workouts or playlists you’d recommend for people to get dancing at home?
One of my best friends Miharn Kirakosian has an amazing youtube channel, this is perfect for anyone whether you are a confident dancer or not. Joe Wicks is great on YouTube and has some amazing workouts.

Playlist wise I love this one. They always refresh them and new tracks!

What is your favourite post-workout meal that is easy to make at home?
Ok, I have to admit I do not cook at all, I’m absolutely hopeless in that department. I leave all of that to my husband Brian. After a good dance work out Brian makes me an amazing smoothie. I’m not actually sure what he puts in it, all I know is it has peanut butter and it’s amazing!
